2 penny blue is...
...a hybrid antispam system (formerly called camram) mixing the concepts of postage and reputation to enhance communication between well-behaved parties, and slow down or deter communication from spammers. The 2 penny blue system operates on a peer-to-peer basis with no central authority using proof of work puzzle values as an expression of reputation. The 2 penny blue system intentionally makes payment information visible, allowing intermediate machines to filter spam closer to its point of ingress to the global email system. 2 penny blue remains compatible with existing e-mail infrastructure while providing higher delivery with reliability by bypassing traditional content filters if reputation allows. There are lots of reasons for using 2 penny blue. The most basic are:
- No lost messages from people you email regularly.
- Easy training and operation.
- Low impact on users, high impact on spammers.
The current version of 2 penny blue has been withdrawn because of problems with installation and CRM114 integration. The new version is forthcoming; volunteers will make it happen faster. 2 penny blue is implemented in Python and is moving to use SQLite.
